Fiber-reinforcement and its effects on the mechanical properties of high-workability concretes manufactured with slag as aggregate and binder

The feasibility of manufacturing fiber-reinforced concretes high workability through additions volumes electric arc furnace steel slag is evaluated in this paper, using sustainable binders with ground granulated blast and ladle as a supplementary cementitious material. An extensive experimental plan developed to test four (self-compacting pumpable) concrete mixtures, some reinforced 0.5% vol. (metallic or synthetic) fibers, both the fresh hardened state. Very specific mechanical aspects are examined, such evaluation longitudinal transversal stress-strain compressive behavior, assessment direct tensile strength “dog-bone” test. results testing design yielded suitable strengths, good toughness, ductility impact strength, among other properties. Good adhesion between fibers matrix was also evident from fiber pull-out results. Finally, overall confirmed that use can make real contribution construction-sector sustainability behavior these novel meets basic requirements for structures.
